What does God expect of me? When the Pharisees asked Jesus was the greatest commandment, He responded "You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself." (Matt 22:37-39 NLT) Jesus then proceeded to tell them that all of the Law and the Prophets are based on these two things. So what God expects is for me to love Him above all else. He expects more than words from me. He expects me to live for Him in a way that others can see Him through me. Then He expects me to care enough for my neighbors to share His love with them. Everything I do should be a reflection of my love for God. B.B. McKinney expressed it well in his Hymn "Let Others See Jesus In You"
"While passing thro' this world of sin, And others your life shall view, Be clean and pure with-out, with-in, Let others see Jesus in you. Your life's a book before their eyes, They're reading it thro' and thro';Say does it point them to the skies, Do others see Jesus in you? ....Then live for Christ bothday and night Be faithful, be brave and true, and lead the lost to life and light; Let others see Jesus in you."
We live in a world that is watching us closer and closer everyday. They are counting on us to be faithful to the one in whom we profess to believe. Jesus gave us two commands that stand above all others. That is what He expects of me.
